Do you ever wonder whether people would like you more or less if they could see inside you?

I’m reading John Green’s An Abundance of Katherines and I came across this line that made me think. I’m sharing it with you so that hopefully it would make you think as well.

I do sometimes wonder this question. Though most of the time I proceed to answer it explicitly. When I first meet new people and in meeting people I know that there are two outcomes they either like me or hate me. I can say that I am cynical, sarcastic, honest and simplistic. I am loyal to a fault and make sure that I am always honest to the point that it sometimes is misconstrued or take out of context. I never apologize for being myself. I wonder only in trying to determine if there are types of individuals that I get along with more than other. My answer not really, but it is fun to sometimes think about these things sometimes.

Hm… I guess both. I sometimes wish people could see inside, so I wouldn’t have to explain.

But of course there are secret parts, forbidden thoughts, and a lot of nonsense that I would prefer to keep to myself…

What do other people think of this?
